Birth Doula Services Include...
Consultation
Hiring a doula is a major undertaking, and may easily be one of the most important decisions that you will ever make. With that said, it is pertinent to your decision-making process that you have an opportunity to interview multiple doulas before adding one to your birth team.
Home Visits
The weeks immediately following labor and delivery can be both exciting and challenging. Postpartum visits allow for reflection over the birth experience, as well as the assessment of the need for additional support and resources.
Prenatal Visits
Prenatal visits, which can include an appointment with your provider, allow for you and your partner to learn basic childbirth education, create a personalized birth plan, and practice various comfort methods and relaxation techniques that can be used during labor and birth.
Childbirth Education
A solid understanding of childbirth is conducive to creating a realistic and achievable birth plan. Although basic childbirth education is provided, it is still recommended that moms and partners take a class. You will receive referrals for comprehensive childbirth education classes.
Labor & Delivery
Once you reach 37 weeks gestation, you will have 24/7 on-call support. You are provided continuous physical and emotional support throughout your entire labor and birth, up to 2 hours postpartum.
Lactation
For most newborns, breastfeeding can be initiated immediately after delivery. Upon your request, you will receive help to achieve a comfortable and competent latch, to ensure effective suckling and swallowing. If you require more than basic guidance, you will be referred to a lactation consultant.
